Will Watson is an oil painter and muralist. The subject matter of Watson's work is centered around the pain and joy experienced simultaneously in the lives of African Americans and is heavily based on his experience of “right now” in history. Watson’s work is an approach on realism inspired by everyday life captured through imagery or one’s memory. As Watson’s work evolves, he paints figures in a way in which certain features are obscured or eliminated. Watson wants to direct the viewer’s attention to what the figure is doing, their gestures, while in addition offering his subjects a level of anonymity. Watson has greatly benefitted from the NADA House Residency as it has provided a host of inspiration and new subject matter, as well as a valuable life experience by spending time in NYC.
